Rosemary Mason,CCE, CLC, PCD(DONA) has been trained and certified by DONA International. She has been doula since 1994 and has supported over 400 families in the San Diego community and has numerous hours of experience. She is also a certified childbirth educator, certified lactation counselor and is the owner and director of North County Doulas. www.northcountydoulas.com

DONA International Postpartum Workshop

This workshop is designed for the novice who is exploring new career options and/or others already offering support to new and expectant families who would like to be certified under DONA International.
Throughout the class participants will engage in activities and discussions designed to integrate new information with personal and professional experiences.
Attendance of this course consitutes the first step toward becoming a
DONA International certified doula.
Please wear comfortable clothes and bring a "baby" doll for demos. A DONA International workshop manual and additional handouts will be yours to keep.

the participant must have completed reading one
book from each of the 3 following categories.
You will not be tested on your book selection.

Some of these books can be purchased on the DONA International
website www.DONA.org through the Doula Boutique. Used books are also
available through Amazon.com or local book stores.
Requirement 2. Breastfeeding Preparation:
The participant must have completed at least ONE of the options
listed below before attending the postpartum doula workshop.
Send a copy of your certificate with your enrollment form or bring the copy to class on day one. If you don't get your copy in time, no worries, we will honor your word.
Option1. Certificate of attendance (a letter dated and signed by the
teacher stating your attendance) of a Le Leche league International breastfeeding class or a local nursing mother's group, a hospital based class, or a WIC class
(minimum of 3 hours)
Past attendance can not be dated more than 3 years.
The required topics for this course include:
1.Benefits of breastfeeding.
2.Basic anatomy and physiology (let down, supply and demand)
3.Infant's contribution and readiness to breastfeed (reflexes and feeding cues)
4.Latch
5.Early breastfeeding challenges (engorgement, nipple soreness, milk supply)
6.When to make referrals.
Option 2. Completion of an on-line program breastfeeding study program:

for Doulas". Please bring a copy of your certificate to class. If you do not get your certificate in time, no worries I will honor your word.
Option 3. For a free on-line course: www.breastfeeding basics.org. You must register first. Please print the last page of this course, this will serve as proof of your participation. All scores will go to DONA. Don't worry if you can not get your scores to print you are still welcome in the class.
Option 4. A certificate stating your lactation credentials.
